Exploring channels to reach their privacy-conscious audience

Jasper, Redact’s Head of Marketing, came to TLDR with a specific goal in mind: reach a privacy-conscious audience. And being a long-time subscriber, though newsletter advertising was less traditional, he knew advertising in TLDR would be a good fit.

Newsletter advertising is a new area for us. I’ve been a long time subscriber so I already knew what type of content was in TLDR, and its quality. I thought the audience would be a perfect fit, and it was of a significant size.

– Jasper Childs, Head of Marketing, Redact

TLDR didn’t need to sell Redact.dev on advertising with TLDR, the only question left was whether we could deliver on results.

TLDR ads vs. LinkedIn and other traditional ad channels

The Redact team had solid benchmarks to compare TLDR’s performance, having run campaigns on various digital ad platforms. By all counts, TLDR outperformed their expectations.

Every marketer is looking for ROI. There always needs to be a measurable return.

We’ve advertised with LinkedIn, Google, Bing, X, Quora, Reddit – most digital media. When looking at TLDR – traffic results exceeded the expectations set by social platforms. I think LinkedIn is a great comparison. TLDR’s starting price is higher because it’s not programmatic, but they both offer high quality traffic in hard-to-reach niches. If you compare CPCs and traffic quality, our TLDR campaign performed about 2x better for cost.

The fact we are seeing so much traffic at such a low CPC from a privacy-conscious niche was very impressive – TLDR stacked up really well against other performance marketing channels – not something I’ve seen for a paid email ad.

Jasper was equally impressed by TLDR’s level of service.
